It was beginning of July and my mom heard of this school called AISU through our neighborhood and one of the kids in the neighborhood went there. It was a new school at the time only its second year and there was some great things being said about it. I had never heard of it but I was interested and wanted to go there pretty badly. I was going to another school before and was probably going to be home schooled for my 6th grade year. But I wanted to go to this school really badly. My older brother by two years saw it and also wanted to go there.
So my mom ended up talking to them and tried to get a tour of the school and signed us up for the lottery. She got all the arrangements handled and a week later we went on a tour of the school. We couldn't get through the front door because it was locked. Luckily there was people coming out of the building so we could sneak past to get in (It wasn't against any rules. At least I hope so). So we walk in and we see these people vacuuming the entire building and floor. So one of the older women who was vacuuming went up to my mom and asked if she needed anything. My mom said she was looking for a tour. And the lady said that they didn't have any tours at the time but she was willing to show us around and give us a personal tour. So my mom, of course, said sure and the lady took us around the school. She was going on on how they were partnered with a church which funded half of the building and a private school that paid for there portion of the building. She also talked about how the private school is where they refer all the gifted and talented students there to. That's what caught my moms interest. She was asking about it knowing that we were gifted and talented and that she would like to know more about the school. So she got refereed to the schools phone number. We finished up the tour and that put a new aspect in my moms brain.
Later that week she called that number and got a person saying, "Realms of Inquiry this is Karri speaking."
She just asked her a bunch of questions about the program and after reviewing there website she thought it was going to be too expensive for us. So they said that no one had applied for the scholarships yet and that we could join a scholarship program. We just have to show that we are gifted and talented in a physical are like a book or a IQ test. My family had already wrote Minecraft for Dummies and I had my own little section in it, Joseph's Corner. So I showed up with that when I went to go talk to the headmaster of the school for a "conference". It wasn't really a conference it was more of a just getting to know you and this is what Realms does and what you are committing to do. We talked about everything and by the time it was over I was more and more excited about going to this new school then I ever had been for going to a new school before. I remember that one of the big reasons that I wanted to go there really badly was because that we had field trips every single Thursday. And trust me now that was a lot of fun.
My mom still had to figure out the whole scholarship thing. So after we applied for it (It was a thousand dollar scholarship) a week later another student applied for it. But they were still planning to give out 10 scholarships. So I needed about $2500 paid for in scholarship in order to go. They said they were willing to give that to me but I had to be on a special scholarship. Where I would use my time wisely and help out the school do homework that kind of stuff. Mostly because I was joining at 6th grade and homework doesn't actually start to matter until you're in high school. I accepted that scholarship contract and went to school on the first day. My brother and I had to take the train so we had to get train passes and it was one of our first times riding the train but after a while it got old. In conclusion that's how this all started, how I got accepted into the school and how everything went on after that. After this there is going to be so many more stories that I can't wait to tell. But untill then this is Joseph Stay and I am over and out.
